Episode 6.1: The Honeymoon's Overboard

Fran and Maxwell get washed up on a desert island after falling off the cruise ship, and Fran immediately starts to complain about the primitive conditions on the island, which puts Maxwell in a bad mood. But the couple soon get back in "the mood", and are just about to make up when... Maxwell gets bitten by a poisonous tropical insect! So the consummation of their marriage once again gets put off, as Fran nurses Maxwell back to health. Meanwhile, Niles, C.C., Sylvia and the kids worry and wonder if Maxwell and Fran are dead.

Renee Taylor guest stars as Fran's mother Sylvia. Ray Abruzzo guest stars as C.C.'s choper pilot. Lisa Stanley and James Edson also appear (as reporters?).


Episode 6.2: Fran Gets Shushed

Fran and Maxwell have a fight after he shushes her for being too loud in the bedroom, and Fran storms off to mother. But she gets a chance to redeem herself at a party thrown by the writer of the first play that Maxwell may actually get before Andrew Lloyd Webber. Will Fran be an asset in Maxwell's quest, or a liability (yet again!)?

Renee Taylor guest stars as Fran's mother Sylvia, and Rachel Chagall guest stars as Fran's best friend, Val. Ray Stricklyn guest stars as playwright Wendell Kent. Christopher Winfield also appears.


Episode 6.3 Once a Secretary, Always a Secretary

Maxwell lands himself in hot water with Fran after he, 1) ignores her opinion on a trip Brighton wants to take with some friends, and 2) keeps referring to her as "the nanny" during an interview on "Entertainment Tonight". So, to try to set things right, Maxwell hires another nanny, but Fran has difficulty in creating a new role for herself besides being The Nanny.

Renee Taylor guest stars as Fran's mother Sylvia, Ann Guilbert guest stars as Grandma Yetta, and Rachel Chagall guest stars as Fran's best friend, Val. ? appears as Nanny Bowers. ? from "Entertainment Tonight" has a cameo as himself.


Episode 6.4: Sara's Parents

Maxwell invites his first wife's parents, Ernest and Reberta, to visit so that he and Fran can get their approval for Fran to legally adopt Maggie, Brighton and Gracie. But Reberta takes an immediate dislike to Fran (can you say "culture clash"!), which jeopardizes the adoption.

Episode 6.5: Maggie's Boyfriend

Maggie brings her first serious boyfriend, Michael, an underwear model (and son of a plastic surgeon! cha-ching!), home to meet the family, and while Fran likes the young man and heartily approves of Maggie's new beau, Maxwell thinks that Fran's approving approach is all wrong and that Maggie is moving too fast. And Maxwell is proven right when Maggie uses Fran's approval as a pretext to move in with Michael!

Episode 6.6: I'm Pregnant

Fran, and then Maxwell, are in for a horrible shock when they stumble upon Maggie and Michael together in Fran's old bed! putting Fran in hot water with Maxwell. But things go from bad to worse when Maggie confides to Maggie that she may be pregnant, prompting a visit to the gynecologist to determine the truth of the matter. Meanwhile, Niles ties to buy C.C.'s classic BMW from her, but is unhappy when he finally buys the car from C.C.

Episode 6.7: Mom's the Word

Fran goes to Sylvia to ask for advice on telling Maxwell about her pregnancy, a conversation which Niles overhears. Niles inadvertantly tells C.C. the truth (and has to act as C.C.'s slave to avoid telling Maxwell), while Yetta and Brighton lose each other at the movies. Meanwhile, Fran tries to break the news to Maxwell, an event which takes an unexpected turn.

Renee Taylor guest stars as Fran's mother Sylvia, Ann Guilbert guest stars as Grandma Yetta. Margaret Cho guest stars as Caryn, the mom in Central Park. Chad Everett guest stars as Dr. Osborn, Tawny Moyer appears as the nurse, and Nora Dunn guest stars as Fran's gynecologist, Dr. Reynolds.


Episode 6.8: Making Whoopi

Worried that she may never get pregnant, Fran visits Dr. Reynolds (Nora Dunn in her recurring role), who advises her that timing is key for conception. Unfortunately, the perfect time for Fran to conceive occurs simultaneously with Maxwell's appearance on Hollywood Squares. Meanwhile, Val becomes a genius for a day when Dr. Fu gives her some special herbs to make her intelligent.

Guest star: Whoopi Goldberg.


Episode 6.9: Oh, Say, Can You Ski?

A Thanksgiving ski trip for contributors to President Clinton is the outlandish setup for an episode culminating Fran's running---and increasingly desperate---effort to conceive. But the idea is to get getting pregnant off Fran's mind, and a long weekend in Aspen with the Clintons appears to be just what the doctor (Nora Dunn) ordered. Besides, Maxwell is preoccupied with preventing any gaffes Fran might make in front of the President (Tim Watters). He needn't worry. In fact, her tale to the chief about her conception woes proves to be an exchange that inspires Maxwell later in the evening.

Episode 6.10: The Hanukkah Story

Fran is disappointed that Maxwell is going to Boston on business with C.C. and Grace instead of spending the first night of Hanukkah with the family. While on the road to Boston, Maxwell has a change of heart after remembering his lonely childhood holidays without his family. Just as he's calling Fran to tell her they're coming home, his car crashes in a horrible snow storm. Fran is frantic when the police can't locate Max, CC and Grace during the blizzard.

Guest star: Ray Charles as Sammy and Sophie Ward as Jocelyn.


Episode 6.11: The In-Law Who Came Forever

In retaliation for a perceived snub at Fran's wedding by Sylvia, Fran's widowed (and rich) Aunt Freida buys Sylvia and Mortie's apartment building, and promptly kicks them out, forcing Fran to take them in at the Sheffield residence. And who's driven the most nuts by this? Fran, of course! C.C. hires Andrew as the model for a poster of one of Maxwell's shows, and Niles is jealous (as is Maggie... of the female models on the shoot!).

Episode 6.12: The Fran In The Mirror

Fran tries to impress the Headmistress of a prestigious private school that Gracie wants to get into, and Fran spins a few tales along the way to do it. Niles inherits a title. Oh, and Fran gives $1 million dollars to Maxwell's shady college chum, Rodeny (Maxwell Caulfield) to invest it in a deal... but will she ever see the money again (and will Maxwell forgive her if the money is gone for good!)?

Sophie Ward appears as Maxwell's sister Jocelyn. Susan Krebs appears as the Headmistress of the school Gracie wants to get into. James Edson also appears.


Episode 6.13: The Yummy Mummy

Fran accompanies Brighton as he visits his prospective colleges, but he and some other boys get in a fight at Harvard after several of them make lewd comments about Fran. But when Brighton asks Fran not to come with him anymore, she thinks it's because Brighton is embarrassed by Fran's lack of education. Meanwhile, Niles is depressed that C.C. has a new boyfriend. And Lynn Redgrave visits the Sheffield residence.

Episode 6.14: California Here We Come

Everyone is thrilled with the prospect of moving to California when Maxwell gets a Hollywood movie deal, except for Fran and Sylvia, who can't bear the thought of living apart. But Sylvia refuses to budge, leading a puzzled Fran to a discovery about her mother's secret life.

Hal Linden Guest Stars as a Television Studio Executive, Donna "Elly May" Douglas Guest Stars As Herself.
